Roohaniyat: 2-13-10: Good Morning Florida!….and a very Happy Valentines Day to you all, for tomorrow!
We are all meant to serve a purpose. Some of us recognize the purpose why we are here, in this world and some us just think that we were born to make money, raise children and maintain a household. In our day-to-day lives, we interact with many people and our actions- whether good or bad, sometimes establish a home in other's memories.
One day, a freshman in high school, called Justin, saw a kid from his class walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. Justin thought to himself, 'Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd.'
Justin had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with his friends Saturday afternoon), so he shrugged his shoulders and went on. As he was walking, he saw a bunch of kids running towards Kyle. They ran into him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and Justin saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him... He looked up and saw this terrible sadness in Kyle's eyes.
His heart went out to him. So, he jogged over to Kyle as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and saw a tear in his eye. As he handed him his glasses, Justin said, 'Those guys are jerks.' Kyle looked at Justin and said, 'Hey thanks!' There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. Justin helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near him, so he asked him why he had never seen him before. Kyle said he had gone to private school until now. They talked all the way home, and Justin carried some of his books. Kyle turned out to be a pretty cool kid. Justin asked him if he wanted to play a little football with his friends. He said yes. They hung out all weekend and the more Justin got to know Kyle, the more he liked him, and his friends thought the same of him.
Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. Justin stopped him and said, 'Boy, you are gonna build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday! ' Kyle just laughed and handed him half the books.
Over the next four years, Kyle and Justin became best friends... When they were seniors they began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown and Justin was going to Duke. They knew that they would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. Kyle was going to be a doctor and Justin was going for business on a football scholarship.. Kyle was valedictorian of their class. Justin teased him all the time about being a nerd.
Graduation came and Kyle had to prepare a speech for graduation. On Graduation day, Kyle looked great. He was one of those kids who really found himself during high school. Justin saw him and could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, he smacked him on the back and said, 'Hey, big guy, you'll be great!' Kyle looked at Justin with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. Thanks,' he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began: 'Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends.... I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story.' Justin just looked at his friend with disbelief as he told about the first day they had met. Kyle had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. Kyle looked hard at Justin and gave him a little smile. 'Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable..' Justin heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told everyone all about his weakest moment. He saw Kyle's Mom and dad looking at him and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did Justin realize, the depth of his actions.
Never underestimate the power of your actions.. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others.
Remember the little girl who was walking on the shore, where hundreds of starfish had washed ashore. She was picking up each one and throwing the starfish back into the ocean. A passerby saw her and laughed: "There are hundreds of them, do you really think you'll be able to make a difference?" The little girl picked up another starfish and as she threw it back in the water, she said: "It sure made a difference to that one" For that one starfish that just went back into the water, it made the difference of life and death.
We might not be able to change the whole world, but God had granted us with the absolute capability to surely be able to make a difference.
Past is history. Future is a mystery. Present is a gift: so cherish it and make the best of it!
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day! Make sure you show spiritual love to everyone you come across, because you never know to what degree, your actions will make a difference!!
